MEXICALI, Baja California, June 7, 2008.- Peru
edged a resilient Canada team in five sets in the
match for the seventh position of the Women’s Pan
American Cup. The score was 26-24, 25-12, 23-25,
18-25, 15-6.
Patricia Soto was the best Peruvian scorer with 16
points. Four more players of the South American
squad ended with double-digits: Carla Rueda and
Mirtha Uribe with 13 apiece, and Yulissa Zamudio
and Jessenia Uceda with 12 and 11 respectively.
Dayna Van Doorn and Tiffany Dodds led Canada with
13 apiece, Ashley Voth had 11 and Tonya Mokelkin
and Nadine Alphonse each contributed 10 tallies.
“It has been a great experience for our team which
is in a renovation process,” said Peruvian Soto.
“Playing against some good teams here give us a
clear idea about what our needs are.”
“Today was a good day to give our younger players
a chance to test what international volleyball
is,” said Tammy Mahon of Canada. “Their
performance says a lot about their promising
careers and about the depth of our program.” |
